Journal Page: A Jean Pocket is a Unique Element

Hi.  So my favorite Documented Life Project art journal page thus far is my jean pocket page.  I love the texture, depth of layers, color and of course my unique element.  If you don’t know it already, I am a lover of blue jeans.  I wear them as often as I can.  Some weeks I wear them all week, some only once or twice as work and weather permit.  There is nothing in the world like a pair of well worn jeans.  So when we were challenged by the girls at DLP to incorporate a unique element I was prepared.  I have been saving pockets from old jeans for years.  Typically, I use them to hold utensils on a table top around July 4th.  Check back around then and I will share a denim table top with you.  After all, what’s more American than jeans?  I digress…

So below is my DLP, week 13 (March 28, 2015) challenge art journal page.   I used a ton of modeling paste, some crackle paste, stencils, acrylic paint, distress ink, Distress stain, a jean pocket and a tag with the saying, “Ride the energy of your own unique spirit” Gabrielle Roth.

After the page had “cured.” I say cured because it really only sat out overnight.  I covered the page in a semi-gloss gel medium.  This helps the page from becoming brittle and flaking as the substrate (the journal page) is flexible which isn’t always good for modeling paste and really not good for crackle paste. I also like the sheen and depth the gel medium gives the page.

Cheers,

Trish

So Grateful My First Ever Art Journal Share

Standard

My first Art Journal post and my first PUBLIC Art Journal display.  Wow!  I had no idea the pressure I would feel trying to pick the first public appearance of my art journaling (I had tons of pages to choose from).  I have been of the mind that my art journal is for me and not for my friends, family or students, but really if anyone ever asked I shared my pages and sometimes when I was especially pleased I would share my page out of pure joy.  And of course during family art journal time we all see what each other creates.  Okay, so all that being said I picked the below image as my first Art Journal post as it sums up how I feel most about my creativity and ability to grow and share.  It is certainly not my best art journal page but really art journaling isn’t about good or bad it’s about creating pure and simple.  So, here’s my first every art journal share…

PS I am not sure when this page was created I think spring 2013.  Possibly even for a Life Book Prompt.  If it is from a Life Book Prompt every intent is made to give credit where credit is due.  Thanks.
