So…like many I am participating in the documented life project 2016 –the unplanner. Having a blast with the no-pressure creating concept–part art journal, part planner, part scrapbook, part documentation, part smash book–all crafty fun.

Last week I made the “loved” collage as my February un-planner divider page.

Tea Cup Dreams–Sail Away

Tea Cup Dreams–Sail Away

Good morning!

My big girl job is pretty challenging right now.  I like challenges and overall really like my big girl job but right now there are a lot of ugly issues taking much of my time.  I would really like to focus on going forward and am instead spending all my time on issues created by my predecessor.  AAh challenges.  Well when I found a little time to post and nurture my soul I found this great art journal piece I created while taking Lifebook 2013 with Tamara LaPorte. She is amazing!  Take Lifebook if you haven’t.  This is piece I very much enjoyed creating then and so enjoy looking at now.  I am ready to sail away even if I am only in a tea-cup.  A girl has got to “dreame…”

Cheers,

Trish

Art Journal Friday: Words With Friends

Art Journal Friday: Words With Friends

Hi.  Happy Friday!  Today is all about Words with Friends.  I don’t play the online game, but my husband does.  I play the old school Scrabble game so I found this Document Life 2015 art journal challenge to be great fun.  It is a mixed media art journal page filled with love and happy memories.  I created a collage from various notes, cards, letters and envelopes from friends and family. With the notes I included some other ephemera like a vintage bingo card and some other graphic text.  I also included a middle insertion–an envelope that has a favorite note from a friend.  After I collaged down the various ephemera I added a layer of gesso and some glimmer mist transparent shimmer color– just to add some shimmer.  I also stenciled alphabet letters in various places with Glimmer Mist grey.  After both were dry I added some Distress Ink in Vintage Photo.  I let the distress ink meander its way through the lows of the collage.  I then made copies of Scrabble tiles.  I would have loved to use the actual tiles but since this is a piece in my art journal I wanted it to remain fairly flat.  A girl has to pick where to add dimension if she wants to ever shut her art journal.

Enjoy!

It’s an oldie but goodie! I began art journaling with regularity some 6 or so years ago.  At that time I joined Christy Tomlinson’s monthly kit subscription.  I think when I began the subscription it was a scrapbooking subscription but pretty quickly became a monthly art subscription.  I created this art journal page using Christy’s embellishments and tissue paper. If you are new or newish to art journaling or crafting on a regular basis and monthly subscription kit is a great way to gather the newest supplies.  Plus when a kit comes you have to figure out how to use the supplies so it is a great way to push yourself to try new things.  The challenge with monthly art kits is that eventually you have to stop them or move to a bigger house or studio as your cup will truly run over with crafting stash.  It is never fun to give up a monthly kit but I certainly used a ton of really cool supplies while I was part of Christy’s kit.  She still offers the subscription kits in some form or another.

Art Journal w Christy Tomlinson Embellishments

I have always liked the quote, “Home, it’s where your story begins…” so when I received Christy’s ephemera kit with houses I new I was going to use the quote.  I mean how perfect is the saying with a little house?

For this page, I covered the page with tissue and magazines then I added paint using free form and stencils.  I added ephemera and embellishments from Christy and from an old card I liked.  Then I added more paint and ink as well as rubons.  I cannot remember now but this may be loosely copied from a Christy Tomlinson page.  Thank you Christy Tomlinson for guiding me when I first started mixed media art journaling.

Tag

So sometimes creativity just happens.  Actually, creativity is like a muscle the more often you use it the stronger it gets.  So, when I am in my groove creativity just happens.  The above tag took all of ten minutes.  I love it for its easy home décor charm and its ease.  All the embellishments, ribbon and even the tag is all premade.  So, see anyone can create.  I didn’t draw, stamp or ink a thing.  I just collaged the pieces.

I fell in love with the ribbon and had to have some but had no idea what I was going to do with it just knew it looked like me.  The same goes with the little hanger. I mean when you see one of those in the store how can you say, “no.”

The dimensional heart , banner and globe stickers (The stickers were part of a dimensional embellishment packet from Simple Stories) and the metal butterfly were in my stash as was the black chipboard tag.  Layer it up ladies then call it done and Done.

Cheers,

TRish

I have worked in an art journal off and on for years.  Sometimes I work through a class, workshop or Internet prompt and sometimes I work on my own.  This year I am participating in the Documented Life Project.  I am loving the workshop.  Check it out at http://www.art5academy.com/the-studio/the-documented-life-project-free.  It seems to be a perfect mix of styles, artists and prompts for me.  Having just told you about DLP I am actually sharing a journal page not from DLP.  Aahh, the oddities of blogging.  So on goes the post.

I am sharing a page from an archived Art Journal.  I used tissue paper, acrylic paint, stains, magazine images and other ephemera.

When I first started Art Journaling I was in high school (which was just last year OR…maybe 30 years ago), back then I didn’t call it Art Journaling.  It was my sketchbook and into went everything.  Some of it was mixed media, some was technique, some pencil drawings, some reflections. Sounds just like an Art Journal, but it was a sketch book (ha!).  I think there are many fine artists that carry a sketchbook and journal, draw, write, save ideas, etc in it.  Whatever you want to call it.  It’s a great tool to provide you with a creative outlet that needn’t be perfect.  . Enjoy my joy and imperfection.

Cheers,

Trish
